Jerry Torres

Jerry Torres grew up idolizing Richard Pryor who once said “The Truth-people cant always handle it. But I know that if I tell you the truth, it’s going to be funny.” Jerry says he’s just a comic who talks about his life and entertains. He takes everyday embarrassments and brings them out of the closet. Things that people relate to, but will not admit. Also it’s the best job you can get with a GED. My story is simple. My father is Puerto Rican and my mother is Colombian. But I look white as ever. Growing up, their word arrangement was confusing at times. Like the time my father caught me scratching my crotch and he yelled, Oh my god! You have the lobsters! I inherited my sense of humor and comedic timing from my father. I set myself apart from other Latinos for one I don't look it and I was in gang called the PRP (The Puerto Rican Posse) the difference from them was, they sold drugs-I called the police. My idol is Richard Pryor. There is only one Richard, but I just want to be myself and have fun. I’m a real people person with a great personality that an audience relates to. Did I mention I’m an Aquarius? I started experimenting with comedy in 1993. I had many jobs before stand up. I was an interpreter at a Taco Bell; I was a caddy at a miniature golf course, and so on. But I quickly discovered my frustrations of my professions. Opportunities presented and promises made were quickly withdrawn. Like the time this guy gave me his card and told me that he was a manager for a major record studio. It turned out he was a manager at the local Sam Goody. My real love is performing on stage. I look forward to realizing all my dreams of comedic success. I have learned from my mother, a breast cancer survivor, to believe and to be strong and to clean the streak marks from my boxers.
